Director Statement
Welfare Check is short film written and shot in an economically depressed Muncie, Indiana shortly after the 2016 election. Many women and people of color have felt especially vulnerable and discouraged by the rhetoric and violence emerging in America.
There is a Sojourner Truth quote, " I will not allow my life's light to be determined by the darkness around me."
Welfare Check is an attempt to acknowledge the discouragement and fatigue of the ongoing fight and to find that light and keep passing it on.
